The Philadelphia Union announced the tragic death of goalkeeper Holden Trent, who passed away at the age of 25 on Saturday. The club chose not to disclose further details, honoring the privacy of Trent's family and friends.

In a statement, the Philadelphia Union expressed their devastation over his loss, saying, "Holden Trent was not only a remarkable player and fierce competitor, but also a devoted son, brother, fiancé, and teammate who uplifted those around him. He exemplified determination, dedication, and perseverance, and he will be profoundly missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, his fiancé, and his friends."

Major League Soccer (MLS) also shared their condolences on social media, stating, "Major League Soccer stands in solidarity with the Philadelphia Union and the entire soccer community in mourning the tragic passing of Holden Trent. A young goalkeeper with a promising future, Trent demonstrated professionalism and commitment daily, contributing to the close-knit goalkeeping unit at Philadelphia. We extend our deepest sympathies to his fiancée, family, friends, teammates, and the entire Philadelphia Union community. MLS is working with the club to provide support and resources to players and families during this difficult time."

Trent, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, was selected 28th overall by the Union in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft after his time at High Point University. Although he had yet to make his first-team debut, he played six matches for the Union’s second team in MLS Next Pro.
