Emmys 2024: 'Shōgun,' 'Baby Reindeer,' and 'The Bear' take the spotlight. Check out the complete list of winners.

Shōgun and Baby Reindeer emerged as the standout winners at the 76th Emmy Awards held on Sunday night. In an unexpected turn, Hacks claimed the title of Outstanding Comedy Series, although the frontrunner The Bear still secured several other awards.

The event, hosted by the father-son duo of Eugene and Dan Levy at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrated various television archetypes, featuring memorable onscreen fathers and doctors. It also showcased reunions from iconic shows like Happy Days and The West Wing.

Jodie Foster made significant strides towards EGOT status with her first Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role in True Detective: Night Country. This year marked the second primetime telecast of the Emmys, as the 75th edition was postponed from 2023 to January 2024 due to the writers' and actors' strikes.

John Leguizamo advocates for greater diversity in Hollywood: 'We need more stories from excluded groups'

John Leguizamo emphasized Hollywood's long-standing issues with onscreen diversity.

Introducing himself as "one of Hollywood's DEI hires," the Latinx actor and comedian explained that DEI stands for diligence, excellence, and imagination, shifting the focus from traditional definitions of diversity, equity, and inclusion. He praised the diversity present in the audience that night.

Reflecting on his childhood in Queens, N.Y., he shared that he "didn't know that people like me could be actors." Leguizamo recounted how he often saw white actors playing Latin characters and the limited roles offered to Latinx actors, including stereotypes like "the spicy sexpot" and "the gangbanger."

He acknowledged the progress Hollywood has made, noting nominations for actresses like Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Sofia Vergara (Griselda), Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer), and the win for Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear).

Leguizamo recalled taking out a full-page ad in the New York Times in June to call out the industry, sparking crucial conversations. He stated, "Tonight makes me almost happy and certainly less angry because tonight is among the most diverse list of nominees in Emmy history," while also emphasizing the need for more stories from excluded groups.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Happy Days, Ron Howard and Henry Winkler reunited at the Emmys.

Eugene Levy noted, "It starred a young actor with a very familiar face who would go on to become one of Hollywood's most iconic film directors." Winkler congratulated Howard for winning a Creative Arts Emmy for Best Documentary or Nonfiction Special for Jim Henson Idea Man.

The duo jokingly acknowledged the absence of the Happy Days theme song as they appeared on stage, with Winkler offering a humorous reenactment of his character's iconic wave. They then presented the award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, which went to Christopher Storer for The Bear.
