Tito Jackson, a member of the Jackson 5, has passed away at the age of 70, according to family reports.

Tito Jackson, a beloved member of the iconic pop group The Jackson 5, has passed away at the age of 70.

Born as the third of nine children in the Jackson family, Tito was part of a musical lineage that included global superstars Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, whose songs continue to resonate today.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram late Sunday, his sons, TJ, Taj, and Taryll, expressed their sorrow: “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”

The Jackson 5, comprised of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and produced several chart-topping hits in the 1970s, including "ABC," "I Want You Back," and "I’ll Be There."

Under the guidance of their father, Joe Jackson—a steelworker and guitarist—the family group rose to fame, eventually moving from Gary, Indiana, to California as their music careers flourished.

Tito Jackson, born on October 15, 1953, was often the less-visible member of the group, primarily serving as a background singer and guitarist. While his brothers pursued solo careers, Michael became known worldwide as the King of Pop. Michael Jackson tragically passed away at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009.

In a December 2009 interview with The Associated Press, Tito reflected on how his brother’s death brought the family closer together, acknowledging the enduring pain of that loss. “I would say definitely it brought us a step closer to each other. To recognize that the love we have for each other when one of us is not here, what a great loss,” he said, admitting he would never fully find peace with it.

In 2014, Tito mentioned that the brothers still felt Michael’s absence during their performances, stating, “I don’t think we will ever get used to performing without him. He’s dearly missed.” He added that Michael’s spirit was with them during performances, bringing them positive energy and smiles.

Just days before his passing, Tito shared a heartfelt message from Germany on September 11, where he visited a memorial for Michael with his brothers. “Before our show in Munich, my brothers Jackie, Marlon, and I visited the beautiful memorial dedicated to our beloved brother, Michael Jackson. We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive,” he wrote.

Tito was the last of the Jackson siblings to release a solo album, debuting with “Tito Time” in 2016, and he released the single “One Way Street” in 2017. In a 2019 interview, he revealed he was working on a follow-up album. He had previously prioritized raising his three sons, who formed their own music group, 3T.

He is survived by his brothers Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, and Jackie, as well as sisters Janet, Rebbie, La Toya, and their mother, Katherine. Their father passed away in 2018.

The news of Tito Jackson's passing was first reported by Entertainment Tonight.
