Tonight, the Chicago Sky will meet the Phoenix Mercury for their second matchup of the week. Following their Saturday victory over the L.A. Sparks, the Sky are playing their second game in as many nights.
Prediction: Mercury -7.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
Analysis:
In their previous game on Thursday, the Mercury defeated the Sky by 20 points and are favored to win again. The Sky's leading scorer, Chennedy Carter, missed Thursday's game due to illness but managed only nine points in a reserve role during Saturday’s win over the Sparks.
Carter’s presence tonight might help, but the Sky are a young team led by Angel Reese, who excels in double-doubles. Playing back-to-back games could challenge this young squad, especially with a defense that has allowed over 85 points in both games since the break.
The Mercury, on the other hand, are 1-1 since the break. They dominated Chicago by 20 points previously but lost by nine to Indiana on Friday. Despite struggles, the Mercury’s performance in the second half showed promise. With Kahleah Copper performing exceptionally well, the struggling Sky defense may have trouble keeping up.
Chicago's defense, which was strong earlier in the season, has been inconsistent since trading guard Marina Mabrey. The Mercury’s potent offense, ranked fourth, should have an edge over the Sky, who are 2-8-0 ATS in their last 10 games against teams with a winning record.
Phoenix is 7-2-0 ATS in their last nine home games, making them likely to cover the spread tonight.
Same-Game Parlay (SGP):
- Mercury -7.5
- Over 166.5
- Diana Taurasi 3+ three-pointers
+360 at DraftKings
Both teams have struggled defensively recently, and the Mercury average the fourth-most points per game. Phoenix has surpassed their average in both games since the break. With Carter back, the Sky should be able to score more, but Phoenix’s weak defense might still allow them to excel offensively.
Diana Taurasi has hit 3+ triples in four of her last five games and has a 36.5% shooting rate from deep. Given Chicago's recent struggles defending the three-point line, Taurasi could easily surpass this mark tonight.
