John Aprea, known for his roles in The Godfather Part II and Full House, has passed away at 83.

John Aprea, best known for his role as Salvatore “Sal” Tessio in The Godfather, Part II (1974) and as Nick Katsopolis, the father of John Stamos’s character on Full House, has passed away. He was 83.

Aprea died on August 5 at his Los Angeles home, according to his manager, Will Levine. The cause of death was not disclosed.

In The Godfather, Part II, Aprea portrayed a young Salvatore “Sal” Tessio, a role that significantly boosted his career, despite his earlier loss to Al Pacino for the role of Michael Corleone in the original Godfather film. Reflecting on his career in a 2019 interview, Aprea noted that his role in Part II was pivotal in turning his fortunes around.

On Full House, which aired from 1987 to 1995, Aprea played Nick Katsopolis, an exterminator and father to John Stamos’s Jesse Katsopolis, or “Uncle Jesse.” He reprised this role in the Netflix reboot, Fuller House (2016-2020).

Born on March 4, 1941, in Englewood, New Jersey, Aprea spent part of his youth in Italy before returning to New Jersey. He moved to New York in the 1960s to pursue acting and later relocated to Hollywood in 1968. His early film career included a role in the 1968 crime thriller Bullitt with Steve McQueen.

In addition to his work on The Godfather and Full House, Aprea appeared in films such as The Stepford Wives (1975), The Idolmaker (1980), New Jack City (1991), and The Manchurian Candidate (2004). His television credits include roles on NYPD Blue, CSI, and The Sopranos.

Aprea is survived by his wife, Betsy Graci, and his daughter Nicole from a previous marriage to actress Ninon Aprea.
