FBI Arrests DC Councilman Who in 2018 Accused Jewish Financiers of 'Climate Manipulation'
The FBI arrested Washington, D.C., City Council member Trayon White Sr. on Sunday, but the details surrounding the arrest are not yet clear.
City Council President Phil Mendelson confirmed the arrest, stating that White was taken into custody by the FBI around 2 p.m. on Sunday. "I’ve spoken to several people and can confirm the arrest," Mendelson told WTTG. "I’m eager to learn more about the situation, but for now, that’s all I know."
The FBI Washington field office declined to comment when contacted by Fox News.
Trayon White gained national attention in March 2018 when he suggested that Jewish financiers control the weather, a claim he made while filming himself driving through downtown Washington in the snow. In the now-deleted video, White said, "And D.C. keeps talking about being a resilient city. That’s based on the Rothschilds controlling the climate to create natural disasters they can profit from to own the cities." He later apologized to the Jewish community for his comments.
In addition to his remarks about the Rothschilds, White tweeted in 2013 that he was "honored" to share a birthday with antisemitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, praising Farrakhan's "intelligence, will, & boldness."
White also faced criticism in 2018 for donating $500 to a Nation of Islam convention in Chicago, where Farrakhan made disparaging remarks about Jews. Despite the backlash, White stated at the time, "I am not resigning, I’m not backing down, I’m not discouraged, I’m not depressed, so run all the media stories you want because my people are going to support me."
