Borderlands 4 Announced at Gamescom

Today, Gamescom unveiled the exciting announcement of Borderlands 4, a much-anticipated entry in the series, following the underwhelming performance of the recent Borderlands movie. With a desire to shift focus back to gaming, Gearbox is ready to capture the attention of fans. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long, as the game is scheduled for release in 2025.

Although an exact release date hasn’t been provided yet, Borderlands 4 marks a significant return since Borderlands 3 launched five years ago. While the previous title didn't quite match the acclaim that Borderlands 2 received at its debut, there’s renewed hope for this next installment.

The teaser trailer offers a glimpse of what’s to come, showcasing a mysterious giant purple orb and a spaceship, sparking curiosity without revealing much about gameplay or story.

Gearbox, in partnership with 2K Games, is dedicated to delivering a fresh and exciting experience. Randy Pitchford, founder and President of Gearbox, shared, “The team and I have always wanted to expand the Borderlands universe since we first introduced the looter shooter genre. Our ambitions for Borderlands 4 are massive, and we're committed to enhancing everything we love about the series while exploring new directions.”

Catharina Lavers Mallet, Senior Vice President and General Manager of 2K Core Games, echoed this enthusiasm: “We’re excited to announce that 2025 will be a monumental year for 2K and Gearbox Entertainment. The Borderlands franchise is among 2K’s most successful and cherished series globally. Our partnership with Gearbox has strengthened, and we look forward to delivering exceptional experiences for both long-time fans and newcomers.”
