USC and Miller Moss find redemption in dominant victory against Rutgers.



 By Ryan Kartje While Los Angeles turned its attention five miles up the 110 Freeway, the rest of the nation likely drifted off to sleep, uninterested in the late-night football matchup between two struggling Big Ten teams.

After three weeks of turmoil, USC returned to a mostly empty Coliseum on Friday night, its confidence shaken and egos bruised from a three-game slump. However, the Trojans managed to deliver one of their best performances of the season, defeating Rutgers 42-20.

Whether anyone was actually watching as USC ended its rough month of travel was of little concern. For the first time since their victory over Wisconsin a month ago, the Trojans resembled a team ready to compete in the Big Ten.

USC secures victory over Rutgers

Final Score: USC 42, Rutgers 20 (end of fourth quarter)

Backup quarterback Jayden Maiaiva stepped in to lead the offense, making an immediate impact with a 13-yard run on his first snap. Quinten Joyner then gained three yards, triggering the two-minute warning. Joyner broke a tackle for a six-yard gain. On third-and-one, Bryan Jackson secured the first down with a one-yard rush.

A’Marion Peterson added four yards, allowing USC to run out the clock.

USC defense records another fourth-down stop
