Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provides a baffling rationale for George Pickens' playing time.

If you were watching closely during the Pittsburgh Steelers' 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, you might have noticed that wide receiver George Pickens was notably absent at crucial moments in the game.

Pickens, the team’s primary wide receiver, seemed to take an unusual amount of rest and wasn't on the field during key plays when one would expect their top target to be involved.

After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed this issue when questioned by the media, providing an explanation that raised eyebrows.

Tomlin attributed Pickens’ absence to what he referred to as “snap management,” drawing a comparison between the 23-year-old Pickens and 35-year-old Cam Heyward regarding player rotation and rest.

However, this explanation feels questionable. Pickens should ideally remain on the field unless he’s injured or there’s another reason Tomlin isn’t disclosing publicly. We hope this isn’t the beginning of a troubling trend with Pickens, but after last season, we wouldn’t be surprised by anything at this point. On Sunday night, he caught three passes for 26 yards.
