The New York Jets announced the firing of head coach Robert Saleh just one day after owner Woody Johnson's meeting with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which took place on Monday night. Johnson clarified on a conference call that while he met with Rodgers before making the decision, the quarterback had no influence over the firing. He emphasized that he was the sole decision-maker in the matter.

Since the firing, Rodgers has remained silent on the issue. He was originally set to appear on ESPN's "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, but his appearance was postponed until Wednesday.

The dynamic between Saleh and Rodgers has come under scrutiny this season, especially following some awkward moments, including an incident during the Jets’ Week 3 victory over the New England Patriots. During that game, Rodgers was seen turning away from Saleh's attempt for a hug. Saleh later explained that the rejection was an effort to maintain focus on the game, saying, "Part of the things that we’ve been talking about is to just get the defense a two-score lead."

Rodgers, however, claimed he didn’t realize Saleh was going in for a hug. "He’s not a big hugger, usually," Rodgers said. "I didn’t know he was going for the hug... I just gave him a push and said ‘two-score lead.’ That’s what happened."

Despite the earlier awkwardness, Rodgers maintained that he and Saleh share a strong relationship. "Rob and I have a great relationship," he said in a later interview on McAfee's show. "We have since day one when I got here. We have text message conversations and discussions about a number of different topics outside of football. We have a good friendship."

Saleh was reportedly escorted out of the team's facilities by security after his dismissal. During his time with the Jets, he compiled a 20-36 record and never managed to win more than seven games in a season. The Jets are currently off to a 2-3 start this year after losing to the Minnesota Vikings, 23-17, in London, and have been one of the most penalized teams in the league this season.
