Tyreek Hill is "still trying" to come to terms with his pregame detainment by police.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Several Miami Dolphins players were briefly detained by the Miami-Dade Police Department before their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, including All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill reported being pulled over for speeding while en route to Hard Rock Stadium, approximately three hours before kickoff. Sources informed ESPN's Jeff Darlington that he was placed in handcuffs after a "verbal altercation" ensued. Hill received a citation for reckless driving before being released shortly thereafter. The incident attracted attention when nearby fans captured it on video, which quickly went viral on social media. Hill expressed confusion over why the situation escalated, stating, "Right now, I'm still trying to put it all together... I still don't know what happened." He emphasized the importance of his platform, asking, "What if I wasn't Tyreek Hill? Worst-case scenario, you know?" He wants to leverage the incident for positive community impact.

During the game, Hill celebrated a touchdown by mimicking his pregame detainment, with teammate Jaylen Waddle pretending to hold Hill’s hands behind his back as if in handcuffs. Hill stated he was respectful and did not use profanity toward the officers, adding that he was unsure why he was detained.

Dolphins offensive lineman Terron Armstead noted that Hill was "pretty upset, but ready to play" when he arrived in the locker room before the game. Hill went on to record a game-high 130 receiving yards, including an 80-yard touchdown — the longest of his career.

Video footage showed Hill on the ground, handcuffed, surrounded by four officers. Teammates Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith intervened to offer support, which resulted in Campbell's own brief detention. "Disobeying a direct order," Campbell said of his detainment, explaining that officers cited him for being too close to the scene.

Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced an immediate review of the incident, later revealing that one officer involved was reassigned to administrative duties while the investigation is underway. Hill was informed of this decision during his post-game news conference and supported the action, saying, "That should tell you everything you need to know, then." He expressed gratitude for his teammates' support during a challenging moment, stating, "It was amazing to see."

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy confirmed that the league is in contact with the Dolphins but declined to provide further comments. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel highlighted the team’s unity in the face of adversity, acknowledging the emotional toll on the players involved.

The Dolphins ultimately won the game against the Jaguars, 20-17, after scoring 13 unanswered points in the second half.
