Hezbollah Vows Retaliation Against Israel Following Deadly Explosions Across Lebanon

During a press conference in Cairo, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken addressed the ongoing ceasefire negotiations concerning Gaza, emphasizing that the process now hinges on "political will." Blinken voiced frustration with the stop-start nature of the talks, which have been frequently disrupted by escalations in the war across the Middle East.

“The process is complicated, and the communication is equally complex,” Blinken noted, referring to the interruptions caused by ongoing conflicts. Despite the efforts, he admitted that a ceasefire-for-hostages deal is still distant, citing unresolved “discreet issues.” He stressed that it has become “less a question of substance and more one of political will.”

Blinken's trip to the Middle East, aimed at reinvigorating peace efforts, marks his first without a visit to Israel since early October. However, recent escalations, including missile strikes in Lebanon, have further complicated the negotiations. While the U.S. has proposed a plan to mediate between Israel and Hamas, its presentation remains unclear despite earlier claims of near completion.

Blinken also addressed the recent attacks in Lebanon, in which Hezbollah blamed Israel for a series of pager explosions. He urged all parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions, clarifying that the U.S. had no prior knowledge of the incidents. He reiterated the importance of restraint to prevent the conflict from spiraling out of control.
