Caitlin Clark continues to make WNBA history before a record crowd as the Indiana Fever defeat the Atlanta Dream.
Watching Caitlin Clark make history is becoming a familiar occurrence.
In the Indiana Fever’s 84-79 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Monday, the 2024 WNBA No. 1 overall pick notched her 21st game of the season with at least 15 points and five assists, setting a new record for the most such games in WNBA history.
Clark finished with 19 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and one block, while sinking four three-pointers to bring her season total to 85, tying the rookie record previously set by Rhyne Howard of the Dream in 2022.
A record crowd of 17,608 fans filled the State Farm Arena, marking the highest attendance for a WNBA game in Georgia. This was the fifth time this season that a team’s attendance record has been broken, with the Fever as the visiting team.
Reflecting on the crowd after the game, Clark expressed her thoughts on the growth of women’s basketball over the past year.
“I feel like I’m just a kid that plays basketball and has a lot of fun,” she said. “Coming into these arenas and seeing these environments is incredible. I don’t take these crowds for granted. Sure, you might get used to it a bit, but for me, it never gets old. As a young girl who grew up going to games, seeing a crowd like this would have felt like heaven.
“It brings me so much joy to see the impact that I, my teammates, and women’s basketball players across the country are having,” she added.
With this victory, Indiana improves to 14-16, placing them third in the East and seventh overall in the league, marking their highest regular-season win total since 2016. Kelsey Mitchell led the scoring with a season-high 29 points, marking her fourth consecutive game with at least 20 points.
2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston contributed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Damiris Dantas added 11 points on 80% shooting in under 10 minutes.
Indiana started strong with an 11-3 run and maintained their lead throughout the game, even extending it to 18 points with about seven minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Dream fought back, outscoring the Fever by six in the fourth quarter, but ultimately could not overcome the deficit.
Atlanta, now at 10-19 for the season, was led by Tina Charles, who scored 28 points, while Rhyne Howard (16), Allisha Gray (12), and Jordin Canada (10) also reached double figures.
