"New Biography Alleges Freddie Mercury Had a Secret Daughter"
Freddie Mercury’s Secret Daughter Revealed in New Biography
A new biography claims that Queen frontman Freddie Mercury had a secret daughter with whom he shared a deep and loving relationship until his death in 1991.
According to Love, Freddie, written by rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, the child—referred to only as “B”—was born following an affair Mercury had in 1976 with the wife of a close friend. B, now 48 and working as a medical professional in Europe, remained unknown to the public, with her existence known only to Mercury’s inner circle.
The book reveals that Mercury maintained a close relationship with his daughter, frequently visiting her and eventually entrusting her with 17 volumes of personal journals he had written throughout his life. These journals, kept private for decades, are now being shared with the public for the first time.
In a handwritten letter featured in the book, B states:
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life.
He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem unusual—even outrageous—to some, but they never lessened his love for me. He cherished me like a treasured possession.”
Mercury began writing the journals on June 20, 1976—just two days after Queen released You’re My Best Friend. In them, he recounts his life, from his childhood in Zanzibar and schooling in India to his family’s escape during the 1964 revolution and resettlement in Middlesex, England.
The final entry was written on July 31, 1991, as Mercury’s health declined. He passed away later that year at age 45 from bronchial pneumonia brought on by AIDS.
B says she decided to share her father’s writings after more than 30 years of silence.
“After decades of lies, speculation, and distortion, it’s time to let Freddie speak. Those who knew about me stayed silent out of loyalty to him.
I’m choosing to come forward now, entirely of my own accord. He left his private notebooks to me—his only child and next of kin—as a record of his deepest thoughts and experiences.”
Jones, who was approached by B three years ago, initially met the claims with skepticism.
“At first, I had my doubts,” she told the Daily Mail. “But there’s no way this could have been fabricated. She never asked for anything and worked with me for over three years. I’m convinced she’s telling the truth.”
