Meet io — introduced by Sam and Jony

This is a remarkable moment.

Computers can now see, think, and understand.
Yet, our experience is still defined by traditional products and interfaces.

Two years ago, Jony Ive and the creative collective LoveFrom quietly began collaborating with Sam Altman and the OpenAI team. What started as a friendship rooted in curiosity and shared values quickly grew into an ambitious exploration—turning early ideas into meaningful designs.

These ideas felt important. They were optimistic, hopeful, and inspiring—reminding us of a time when new tools were celebrated for helping us learn, explore, and create.

It became clear that realizing this vision required something entirely new. One year ago, Jony founded io with Scott Cannon, Evans Hankey, and Tang Tan—a team of long-time collaborators and leading minds in hardware, software, and manufacturing.

Now, io will merge with OpenAI, enabling even closer collaboration between design, engineering, and research teams in San Francisco.

As part of this, Jony and LoveFrom will take on deep creative and design leadership across both OpenAI and io.
