3 Doors Down frontman discloses stage four cancer diagnosis

Brad Arnold, lead singer of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, has announced that he has been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer.

In a video shared on Instagram, the 46-year-old revealed he is battling clear cell renal carcinoma that has spread to his lung. “That’s stage four, and that’s not real good,” he said candidly.

3 Doors Down rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like “Kryptonite,” “Here Without You,” and “It’s Not My Time,” selling over 13 million albums in the United States. “Now, I believe ‘It’s Not My Time’ is really my song,” Arnold wrote to fans, adding, “This’ll be a battle, so we need our prayer warriors!”

Formed in Mississippi, the band broke through in 2000 when “Kryptonite” climbed to No. 3 on the U.S. charts. Their debut album, The Better Life, was among the year’s top sellers. They followed with more chart successes, including the singles “Here Without You” and “When I’m Gone,” as well as No. 1 albums Seventeen Days (2005) and their self-titled album in 2008. In 2017, they performed at President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

In his message, Arnold expressed optimism and faith: “You know what, we serve almighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I am really, sincerely not scared of it at all.” He also announced the band’s summer tour will be cancelled. “I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get,” he added. “And I think it’s time for me to maybe go listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit, right?”

Clear cell renal carcinoma is the most common form of kidney cancer; stage four indicates it has spread beyond the kidney to other parts of the body.
