Butler drops 24 points as Warriors cruise past Trail Blazers 103-86
PORTLAND, Ore. — Jimmy Butler III scored 24 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 103-86 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. However, despite the dominant win, the Warriors didn't clinch a playoff spot, with one game left to play.
The Warriors will have to wait until Sunday's regular-season finale against the Clippers to determine their playoff fate after Minnesota's 117-91 win over Brooklyn. With the tight Western Conference standings, the Warriors' postseason hopes remain uncertain.
"I can’t remember anything like this, I saw today there's a potential for a five-way tie. That’s crazy after 82 games," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. "I’ve never seen anything like this.”
Stephen Curry added 14 points as Golden State led by as many as 27 points during the game.
Jabari Walker scored 19 points for the Blazers, who had already been eliminated from playoff contention but showed promise with the development of young talents like Shaedon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson, and Toumani Camara.
The Blazers took an early 20-14 lead in the first quarter, but the Warriors quickly answered with a 21-10 run, including a 3-pointer from Buddy Hield. Curry's 3-pointer extended the lead to 38-27, and Portland never regained control.
