Ole Miss fans rush the field while time is still on the clock, causing a delay in the game's conclusion.
Ole Miss fans were eager to celebrate Saturday night, but they got a bit too ahead of themselves.
The 16th-seeded Rebels stunned No. 3 Georgia, holding the Bulldogs to just 10 points in a dominant win. From the very beginning, Ole Miss asserted control, outscoring Georgia 28-3 after the Bulldogs’ opening drive touchdown.
As the clock ticked down, it seemed inevitable that fans would rush the field—but they didn’t wait. With 27 seconds remaining and Georgia facing a 4th and 20 from their own 20-yard line, the Bulldogs' Arian Smith came up short on a completed pass. The clock stopped with 16 seconds left, and Ole Miss prepared to run out the game, sparking a premature field storming by fans.
The celebration quickly turned chaotic as officials, security, and the public address announcer worked to clear the field, but order was soon restored. However, once the final kneel was taken, the fans rushed back, with some even tearing down one of the goalposts.
It’s no surprise given the significance of the victory, which boosts Ole Miss’ chances for an at-large spot in the College Football Playoff. This marks Georgia’s first loss to any team other than Alabama since November 2020.
With a bye next week, Ole Miss fans might just extend the festivities in Oxford.
