Lawrence delivers a standout performance on his birthday, leading the Jaguars to their first victory of the season with a thrilling 37-34 win over the Colts.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With their winless streak behind them, the Jacksonville Jaguars can now shift their focus to strengthening their defense.

On his 25th birthday, Trevor Lawrence threw for 371 yards and two touchdowns, setting up Cam Little's game-winning 49-yard field goal with just 17 seconds remaining. This clinched the Jaguars' first victory of the season, a thrilling 37-34 win over the short-handed Indianapolis Colts.

Tank Bigsby contributed significantly, rushing for 101 yards and two touchdowns. The Jaguars (1-4) celebrated their first win since December and extended their home win streak against division rival Indianapolis (2-3) to ten games.

“I kind of know we don’t lose to them, so I’m like, ‘Good timing, good timing,'" said Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen.

Jacksonville secured its tenth consecutive home win in this series while sporting throwback uniforms on a day dedicated to retired coach Tom Coughlin, who was inducted into the franchise’s ring of honor—a fitting tribute to the architect behind their early success.

However, the game also highlighted persistent issues for the Jaguars, particularly late-game collapses. The Colts scored 24 points in the fourth quarter despite missing key players like quarterback Anthony Richardson, running back Jonathan Taylor, and center Ryan Kelly. They amassed 447 yards and converted 7 of 14 third downs, adding pressure on new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen.

Joe Flacco, the 39-year-old veteran who previously beat the Jaguars while with Cleveland, completed 33 of 44 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns, orchestrating rapid scoring drives to rally the Colts from a 14-point deficit late in the game. Although Flacco had one last opportunity to win, Travon Walker sealed the game with his third sack.

“Obviously, it’s one of those games that ends up being kind of like you want the ball last," Flacco reflected. "This is the NFL. You’re going to play games like this, and you got to be able to dig deep and try to find a way to win.”

The Colts have not won in Jacksonville since 2014, a streak that is weighing heavily on the team.

“I don’t have a great answer for you. I’ve been here two years," said Colts coach Shane Steichen. "I know some of the guys in the locker room have been around it, but we got to get that fixed for sure going forward.”

Lawrence ended a nine-game starting slump, completing 28 of 34 passes despite throwing his first interception of the season. He connected with rookie Brian Thomas for an 85-yard touchdown in the second quarter and hit Christian Kirk for a 61-yard gain that set up another touchdown.

Thomas had a standout game, finishing with five receptions for 122 yards.

Lawrence, Thomas, and Bigsby were crucial to the Jaguars’ performance, especially after tensions flared between Lawrence and receiver Gabe Davis on the sideline in the first quarter. This incident followed reports earlier in the week suggesting that coach Doug Pederson had lost the locker room.

Pederson and his players dismissed any rumors of discord, emphasizing the victory over Indy as a potential turning point.

“There was some frustration. We had a little back and forth and cleared it up. That's all it is. I love when stuff like that happens. You confront issues. ... Let's talk about it and move on. We did a great job of that."

Coughlin Receives Honors

Coughlin, the first coach in Jaguars history and twice dismissed by the franchise, was honored at halftime with an induction into the Pride of the Jaguars. Wearing a teal jacket, he reflected on his time with the team, which he helped build from the ground up from 1995 to 2002. Under his leadership, the expansion team reached the AFC title game in both 1996 and 1999.

Joined on stage by fellow Pride members Tony Boselli, Fred Taylor, and Jimmy Smith, Coughlin expressed his gratitude: “I’m humbled. I’m very proud. For me, it’s never about the individual. It’s always about the team."

Injury Updates

Colts: Right guard Will Fries broke his leg in the third quarter and was carted off the field with his leg in an air cast. Steichen announced that Fries would remain overnight in Jacksonville for surgery.

Jaguars: Returner Devin Duvernay left the game with a hamstring injury, and safety Antonio Johnson experienced cramping issues.
