Israel pledges retaliation for Iran missile strike.
The Israeli military confirmed on Wednesday that a 22-year-old squad commander from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Commando Brigade was killed in combat in Lebanon, marking the first reported death of an Israeli soldier in the region. Hezbollah reported earlier that its fighters clashed with Israeli forces inside southern Lebanon. While the IDF did not specify the exact location of the soldier's death, the area has seen increased hostilities.
The IDF stated that it engaged in close-quarters fighting, targeting over 150 Hezbollah positions, and eliminating enemy fighters. Hezbollah, meanwhile, mentioned ongoing clashes in areas such as Aadeyseh and Maroun Al-Ras, though the IDF has not commented on these specific claims. The Israeli military has urged caution regarding the spread of unverified reports about the activities of its forces, calling for reliance on official information only.
Additionally, the Lebanese military reported that Israeli forces briefly crossed 400 meters into Lebanese territory before retreating. These events are part of the ongoing tension between Israel and Hezbollah in the region.
