"Big Meech," co-founder of the Black Mafia Family, has been released from prison and is completing his sentence at a halfway house, according to reports.
The Brief
Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory, co-founder of the Black Mafia Family (BMF), has been released from prison and will complete his sentence at a halfway house. Flenory was arrested in 2005 and sentenced to 30 years after being convicted on drug trafficking and money laundering charges. The Federal Bureau of Prisons has announced that he is expected to be released on January 27, 2026.
According to TMZ, Flenory was transferred from FCI Coleman Low in Wildwood to community confinement managed by the Bureau of Prisons' Miami Residential Reentry Management Office. His sentence was recently shortened by nearly three years following a judge's ruling in 2024.
Who Was the Black Mafia Family?
Founded in 1985 in Detroit, the BMF was led by brothers Demetrius and Terry Flenory and became known for its drug trafficking and money laundering operations. Newsweek reported that the organization had over 500 members nationwide and generated more than $270 million between 1989 and 2005.
In 2000, the Flenory brothers established a cocaine distribution network linked to their Los Angeles suppliers and connections to Mexican drug cartels. Demetrius also created BMF Entertainment, a hip-hop music label that served as a front for their money laundering activities.
However, in October 2005, the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted a major raid, arresting 30 BMF members and seizing $2 million in cash and assets, including weapons and cocaine. Later that year, the Flenory brothers were indicted on multiple charges. According to court documents cited by Newsweek, they pleaded guilty in 2007 to running a continuing criminal enterprise involved in large-scale cocaine distribution from 1990 to 2005, resulting in their 30-year sentences.
