Michaela Mabinty DePrince, a groundbreaking ballerina from Sierra Leone known for her appearance in Beyoncé's "Lemonade," has passed away at the age of 29, as announced by her spokesperson on Instagram.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Her Instagram tribute highlighted her life, stating, "Her journey was defined by grace, purpose, and resilience. Her steadfast dedication to her art, humanitarian work, and her bravery in overcoming unimaginable obstacles will forever inspire us. She was a beacon of hope for many, demonstrating that beauty and greatness can emerge from the darkest circumstances."

DePrince made history as the youngest principal dancer at the Dance Theatre of Harlem and also performed with the Dutch National Ballet and Boston Ballet.

She authored a memoir, "Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina," along with a follow-up book, "Ballet Dreams," detailing her incredible journey from being a war orphan in Sierra Leone to being adopted by a family in the U.S.

In 2018, it was reported that a biopic based on her memoir was to be directed by Madonna.

Her rise to fame began with the 2011 documentary "First Position," which followed her and other young ballet dancers. She later appeared in the "Freedom" segment of Beyoncé's visual album "Lemonade."

Her Instagram post also recognized her as a devoted humanitarian, serving as an Ambassador for War Child Holland and hosting the "Dare to Dream" gala, which aimed to support the mental health and well-being of children in war-torn areas.

"Though her time with us was far too short, her brilliance and legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were touched by her story for generations to come. Our love and prayers go out to her chosen family, friends, and all who loved her," her spokesperson concluded.
