Dodgers Return Home to Host Weary Rockies
After facing the worst team in the National League, the Dodgers kick off their final homestand of the regular season against the second-worst NL team, the Colorado Rockies. This marks the beginning of consecutive weekend matchups between two contrasting teams in the NL West at Dodger Stadium.
The Rockies have struggled on the road this season, winning only three series away from home, with a dismal record of 3-21-1. They’ve been swept in seven road series this year, resulting in a 23-55 record, which is only slightly better than the bottom-dwelling White Sox. This trend isn’t new for Colorado, who finished last season with a 22-59 away record.
Last year marked the Rockies’ first 100-loss season in franchise history, ending with a 59-103 record. To avoid another season of triple-digit losses, they must win at least four of their final nine games, six of which will be against the Dodgers, with a series against the Cardinals at Coors Field in between.
Dodgers-Rockies Schedule
| Day | Time | Pitchers | TV |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fri | 7:10 p.m. | TBA vs. Freeland (L) | SNLA |
| Sat | 6:10 p.m. | Buehler vs. Quantrill | SNLA |
| Sun | 1:10 p.m. | Yamamoto vs. Senzatela | SNLA |
The Rockies are coming off a solid homestand, having won two of three against the Cubs—something the Dodgers failed to do at home last week—and against the Diamondbacks, who are currently vying for a wild card spot in the National League. Overall, Colorado has won eight of their last 13 games heading into Los Angeles.
For the Dodgers, Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound in the final two games against the Rockies, both on five days of rest. The plan for Yamamoto is to maintain this schedule in the postseason as well.
On Friday, the Dodgers are set to start a pitcher whose identity is still to be determined. The team’s 14-pitcher roster is down to just four active starters after Bobby Miller was optioned on Wednesday. Manager Dave Roberts mentioned that another pitcher will likely be called up for Friday's game, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Justin Wrobleski was optioned on September 8 and cannot return before Monday unless replacing an injured player. The only other pitcher available on the 40-man roster with any length is Ben Casparius, who would pitch on four days' rest on Friday. He last took the mound on Sunday, throwing 68 pitches in three-plus innings for Oklahoma City in a piggyback effort with Tony Gonsolin, who is rehabbing in Triple-A.
Gonsolin could potentially pitch for the Dodgers next week, but for this weekend against the Rockies, the Friday pitching situation remains uncertain.
