Mariah Carey releases a heartbreaking statement after losing both her mother and sister on the same day: 'An unimaginable time'

Mariah Carey has shared the heartbreaking news of the passing of both her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, who tragically died on the same day over the weekend.

The "All I Want for Christmas Is You" singer made the announcement on Monday, expressing her gratitude for the "love and support" she has received.

In a statement to People, the 55-year-old singer said, "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day."

Carey added that she felt blessed to have spent the last week with her mother before her passing. She concluded by thanking everyone for their love, support, and respect for her privacy during this difficult time.

No additional details were provided about the causes of death for her mother or sister. Alison had reportedly been receiving home hospice care in the weeks leading up to her death due to complications with her internal organs.

Dave Baker, a close friend of Alison's, paid tribute to her, describing her as an intelligent, warm, and sensitive person beneath a tough exterior. He shared that he had known her for nine years and had recently been her caregiver.

The relationship between Carey and her sister had been strained, with Alison facing personal struggles, including homelessness. Carey has also spoken about her complicated relationship with her mother in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. She described their relationship as a mix of pride, pain, and gratitude, among other emotions.

Carey has yet to post about the losses on her social media platforms.
