Caitlin Clark dazzles with a 29-point double-double in her WNBA return

 As the WNBA resumed play following the Olympic Games, Caitlin Clark was eager to return to action. In Friday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury, the 22-year-old rookie showcased her readiness with another stellar performance.

Clark led the Indiana Fever to a crucial 98-89 victory over the Mercury, marking their push toward the playoffs. She delivered her 10th double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 29 points, along with 10 assists and five rebounds.

“It was pretty fun,” Clark said after the game. “We came out with a lot of energy, and we need to keep finding ways to sustain that.”

Clark's first-quarter efforts helped Indiana to a commanding 33-16 lead, and they were ahead 54-37 at halftime. Despite a strong comeback from the Mercury, led by Olympic gold medalist Kahleah Copper’s game-high 32 points, the Fever held on for the win. Kelsey Mitchell also contributed significantly, scoring 28 points, as the backcourt duo guided the Fever to victory.

“We’re taking these last 14 games one at a time,” Clark said. “We set the tone early in the first quarter, but it’s all about focusing on one game at a time.”

Fever head coach Christie Sides echoed this sentiment. “I’ve been emphasizing to my staff that we need to concentrate on the next play and the next game. We can’t afford to look ahead or focus on other teams. Our priority is to improve with each game.”
